Musselburgh links from the North

A little lesson in just how tricky the Council can be....

Or - What happens if you don’t do anything...

The report ‘Musselburgh Lagoons Master Plan’ presented to the Cabinet by the Director of Environment (15 June 2004), noted under the section ‘Lack of Consultation’ the low number of comments about the Revised Plan, 109, compared to the Consultation draft, which attracted 222.

“Nearly all of the respondents to the Consultation draft were sent a copy of the Revised Plan, approximately 10% submitted any further comment.”

The report then goes on to say “It is reasonable to conclude that part of the explanation is that the revised Plan dealt with some of the concerns raised at the Consultation draft stage and people saw no need to write again.”

This is not the only conclusion that could have been drawn.  Many people we have spoken to decided to await the publication of individual applications, which would provide more concrete detail of what is proposed regarding the Lagoon development including the racecourse, rather than respond to the revised plan. However by doing so the Council were able to make out that people were happy with the revised Plan!
